OpenTri Apparel - Survey

Feb 28, 2008
I've gotten many requests for OpenTri apparel for training and racing, and wanted to see what the interest level was before putting any real work into a project like this.

To keep it simple, there would be one set of clothing for both men & women, while the women would also have an optional additional item:

Men/Women:
Tank (men's or unisex)
Tri Short
Tech Tee
Total: $125 (all $USD)

Women Optional Item:
Jog Bra: $30

Cycling Shorts / Bib:
Shorts: $50
Bib: $60

These are all custom apparel from Sugoi, which has offered great multi-sport & cycling clothing for years. I'll get you more details, including sizing, etc. after we see if we have enough interest in going further.

If you're interested, just send me a message within OpenTri or an email to my personal account. Just a simple "yes, I'm interested" is all I need for now.

Thanks,
Mike

Early season wrap up (and first blog post)

Opentri-ers, With a week of travel coming up, this seems a good time to call a break between early and mid season examine what needs improvement and focus on the season goals. The early season had only 2 races, the Carrboro Classic Duathlon and the White Lake Sprint Tri. The Carrboro Classic is a small local race but a very good one. Brief recap, Pete(?) from UNC tok off early but I was able to stay steady and catch him toward the end of the run. I took the lead early in the bike only to see e… Continue

Physical Fitness Test

Today was my physical fitness test in NJROTC. I scored a 256 overall, my goal was to get a 261 for the gold star on my PFT ribbon. I did get a silver star though. I did 57 push-ups in 2 minutes, 72 sit-ups in 2 minutes and the 1.5 mile run in 9:15. The good news is I got the star I was expecting and I was selected as team captain for the PFT team next year. It seems that my strength training is paying off.

I am feeling good about my swim time and my sickness from last week is clearing up. This Sunday I have the Marine Corp Half Marathon so I will keep you posted on that.

5/14

Well, the last week saw me do a 70/2 brick and 12.25 run yesterday. Both went okay. The 70 wasn't very fast, 17.7 average, but it is hilly. I was happy to ride that long ride that long without much seat pain. Run was as expected, slow but steady. The 12.25 run was the longest to date. IT band did fine. My knees were a little sore just becasue I'm not used to running that long. I also did a hard swim in the morning. Usually I have the morning off before a long run. Did it in 1:41. So I guess I i… Continue

Racing 70.3 with an HRM

I get email requests for additional guidance fairly often, and usually ask that they be directed to a place that is more centrally accessible (like a group forum) so that others who have the same questions can benefit. Got one of those today that I'm sure is something that many racers have thought about: "I was wondering if you could give me your advice on racing with your heart rate. I did a half ironman on May 3, had a bad swim (16th in age group) got on the bike hard to make up ground (heart… Continue

Training Program

I am new to triathlons, and ran in my first sprint a few weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where to find a training program to prepare for my next triathlon. Thanks for the help.

10 Weeks to Go!!!

Not only did I pay the most I ever have for gasoline at my local gas station this week but also did 15:15 of s/b/r, no weights. But!...

Sadly the 13.1 run last Sunday gave me delayed muscle soreness till Thursday. For that time R&Bing were all done at 60-70%. Recovery pace. Swimming wasn’t affected.

Sunday, after 1:45 run, I drove up to Harriman NY to watch the “Bear Mountain Spring Cycling Classic.” Brought the mountain bike and camera too. I rode in the opposite directio…

My first race report ever (really)

So after nine months of thinking about it, I did the NJ 1/2 Marathon down in Long Branch last weekend. I usually key on The Ridgewood Run as my race kick-off but since I am crazily signed up for two 1/2 IMs this summer, I thought this one would be better. I had a couple things working against me, the most substantial of which was spending the day before the race in a car travelling to Villanova or standing outside on a windy, cold, mostly cloudy day watching Ashlyn pole vault in the Big East me… Continue

Clemson Triathlon

Today was the Clemson Triathlon. The distant was 750-11-3.1. I did good on the swim but was unprepared for the bike and run. The bike discription said one large hill, the entire course was hilly. The run was also the worst 5k I have ever done. I ended up third in my age group with 1:17. Being sick the week before didn't help.

Kickin' it Old School at St. Croix

Anyone who wants to know what it was like racing "back in the day" should make it a point to head down to St. Croix as an early season starter some year. I mean that in lots of good ways -- for example, the race direction and organization are really great, and there was as much support as you could possibly expect for a remote location. But it was also hotter, hillier, windier, and the roads were choppier than I had remembered from my first tri… Continue
