3 weeks out, and sick

After a stellar training weekend in LP I spent the last long weekend in bed instead of training. Woke up Saturday w/ a cough, feeling terrible so I went right to the Dr. She heard "something" in my chest, put me on antibiotics and ordered a chest x-ray to rule out, gulp, pnuemonia. Fast forward to Monday. Meds seemed to be working and THANKFULLY the x-ray came back negative. Dr aslo said she didn't hear anything in my lungs anymore either. I could resume exercise but stop if I get tired. I'm t… Continue

Perkins Memorial Drive

I was bit haggerd all week so I needed an enjoyable solo ride today and I found it. I headed out early to beat the heat and made my up to Bear Mountain then over to Perkins Memorial Drive. I was surprised to see the gates still closed (just before 8 am). Even more surprised to see 2 tri-chicks begining their 4th repeat. Nice! 1 was enuff for me, Definately a popular place as I passed 6 or 7 riders on my way down. I made my over to Harriman and did 1 1/2 loops where I met another rider who was k… Continue

Bride to Bridge (almost) Century

Predicted t-storms (that didn't materlize unitl the evening) had me switch the bike sandwich to Saturday and the long ride to Sunday. So, on tired legs I headed south on 9W to the GWB. I picked up some company at Toga for part of the ride. On the return we took the more scenic River Road for a few miles. Back out on 9W we joined the masses heading north. I left my companion at Rockland Lake and proceeded north towards the Bear Mountain Bridge. With fatigue setting in on the rollers I stopped f… Continue

Harriman RR

Week 27 was a recovery week and I needed it. My back has not been right and after a preview of Harriman's run course the week before my left thigh had tightened. I found an "ART" chiro in NYC. He got me to the start line but still with some aprehension. Swim - It was COLD. The first time in 3 years I wished I had a full wetsuit, not sleeveless. It was long. Everyone races the same distance so not much to do about it. I just didn't need to be in that water any longer than necessary. I would pay.… Continue

Forget the bears, watch the deer!

Friend of mine hit a deer on the descent down Tiorati (Harriman) yesterday. Fortunately, he wasn't seriously injured. Mostly road rash and a bruised hip. Out of comission a few weeks. Be careful out there!

I agree Mark — its the same knowitalls all the time saying the same thing all the time and getting into the same arguements. And the site is life sucking for sure. I am really trying to limit my time spent there. You can't beat the logging features tho and for that reason I will stick with it for now til something else presents itself. But, as far as you being banned from the site for speaking your mind—well, just on principle – it is REALLY WRONG. You were a paying member — silver no less — and I think its just really bad business. Its a forum, and if you put stuff out there, its open for discussion — I don't care who you are!

My wife and I run the Ethan Foundation for Autism. We had a tent at Wyckoff for "Team Ethan", and we will probably do that again in 2009. I am not going to do Lake Placid again in 2009. I plan on doing two 70.3's but I am not sure which ones yet. We should definately meet up. MD

I had 3 people call to tell me that my name was up twice on the IM Lake Placid Athlete Tracking. What are the chances of are names being this close and doing the same race?

Don't hold me to it but I thought it was a myth that those wheels are fragile. It depends what you want the race to be... you don't want to be looking at the results later saying "darn it, shoulda used them." The race is down to 15 miles. Given the road conditions I'd say don't use them. Save'em for July. Less stress.

Cool man. Good idea. I've gotta be done with training by 12 tomorrow. I don't know if I'm riding up and doing a loop and back or driving up and doing the long run tomorrow. Cause of the rain : ( I really wanna experience running on welch and down seven lakes and back.

Hi Mark! It was nice to meet you today. Thanks for introducing yourself. That was a tough run. I think that is the last time I do a race that long on a whim. Ouch!

Thanks Mark! Tomorrow I'm seeing that life is gonna get in the way of working out and that I'm better off taking a rest day then hacking it. Looks like I can use Friday to fill tomorrow's void.

I wish I lived as close to Harriman as you!

July is getting close!
