About Me:
This is my second season in the "adult" races. Love to swim, like to run, learning the bike.
Training goals this year: faster sprints, one International Distance and 1:45 half-marathons.
My future goals are to be a military officer, hopefully attend one of the academies, major in biomedical or nuclear engineering.
I'm open to any advice from seasoned triathletes - every tip counts. One of the best things about triathlons is all the friendly people at the races.

Enka Triathlon

Today was the Enka Biltmore Triathlon. I did my best race ever with an 1:42. I was first in my age group, 52nd overall and my splits were 14,1:04, 22:45. I felt great for the entire race. Hilly, hilly, lots of climbs.

Festival of Flowers Triathlon-Post race

Today was my first Olympic distance race. My time was 2:49 and the temperature was 98-100 degrees. I had a good swim, good bike, and an OK run. Here are my splits: 00:32:07/00:01:35/01:15:32/00:01:16/ 00:59:14/02:49:42

Marine Corps Half Marathon

today was the inaugral Marine Corps Half Marathon. My time was 1:50. The conditions were great, cool, no wind, and little sun. I finished a minute before my dad. The course was hilly but still nice. Because the same organizers for the full were doing the half, the race was extraordinarily well organized. Thank you Mr. Llerandi, I followed your advice.

Physical Fitness Test

Today was my physical fitness test in NJROTC. I scored a 256 overall, my goal was to get a 261 for the gold star on my PFT ribbon. I did get a silver star though. I did 57 push-ups in 2 minutes, 72 sit-ups in 2 minutes and the 1.5 mile run in 9:15. The good news is I got the star I was expecting and I was selected as team captain for the PFT team next year. It seems that my strength training is paying off.

Race tomorrow in Clemson SC - that's a fairly big one in the SCTS series. Been sick this week - hoping for the best, pool training great yesterday though. Will post my HR for pool workout when I return - school now.

Hey Connor! I got back from St. Croix late on Monday night, and have been catching up with work & trying to recover ever since. I think you raced last weekend -- how did it go?

I blogged about my experience at St Croix, so you can check it out there. I had a good race (not great, but did what I wanted to do), and am going to drive hard to my next race, a full IM in June, starting now. Fun fun fun!

Hey there again! I loved reading how you got hooked on triathlon. Very good story and its nice to have you young folks in the fold. Mike and I have three kids, all of whom are interested in triathlon (not quite where you are, though!) Grayson, our 14 year old daughter has raced the most with three sprint races last summer. She "dabbles" in triathlon but is mostly interested in running for her high school teams. Perhaps she will create a profile here on OpenTri. I know she has a FaceBook page.

After reading about your history and also what Mike has told me about your training, I say, keep up the good work! My only critique would be that someone as young as yourself prob should not be racing anything farther than a 10k. Your joints will thank you when you are as old as we are. Be in for the long haul!

I stink at transitions! Why don't you post a comment on my brother Nate's wall, and ask him what you can do to get faster there...you'll find him on the member page, one of the first people who signed up for OpenTri.

Hey there, Connor. Welcome to OpenTri! Mike has told me quite a bit about you and your family. You have quite a focus for someone so young. How did you get interested in triathlon?

Dear Mr. Llerandi,
Thanks, that's so cool. I changed my name on my page, it doesn't show on the front though.
I'll blog more. I'd love to hear from anyone with ideas.

Hi Connor,
I put you on the "featured members" page up front, so it would be great if you would put your first + last name on your profile. I monitor all kinds of material on the site, so if anyone bugged you about anything, I'd take care of 'em real quick! ;-)
And keep your blog going - you're one of the very few junior members, and I'll bet that you start to gather a little following who will like to monitor your progress...
Have a great weekend!
Mike

One day I will be there.
My fastest half is 1:50 this Feb in Myrtle Beach, 5k is 20:17, I just couldn't break 20 in the CC season. This year I expect to go down by 2 min as I will train hard all summer and just did a 22 during the PI tri.
My best 500 was 6:50 at conference which was good enough for regionals but I got bumped by a senior- This is my first year ever competetively swimming on a team, I had a lot to learn, never went off blocks or swam any stroke other than freestyle. By the end of the season I learned to do the other strokes and swam the IM a lot, it was my favorite event - I'm slow in that though. Swim team was a lot of fun. I can't swim club over the summer because of the tri training and missing meets for tris, looking forward to next hs season. i work with a swim coach at my gym pool to keep my skills up.
What's the best stroke count for 25 yards?
My next half in Fredricksburg May 18 has a lot of hills. Is my time good for a 14 year old?

Staying away from the marathon sounds like the right direction. How fast is your fastest half? What about your 5K? (And you never told me your 500 free time either - just curious...)

Hey, one other thing: Trained for about 5-1/2 hours yesterday, all three sports, mostly with my buddy Chris who is a pro triathlete in the area (it's hard to get a Pro/Elite card, and he's really that good!). I was telling him about your story and he agreed that it was pretty cool to connect with juniors who are just getting started - but he also agreed with the "no marathons until you're shaving everyday" rule! :-)
