Well, about 48 hours ago I was charging into the Tampa Bay en route to a 2:05:09, which was good enough for 1st place in my age group. I lowered my PR at this distance by 55 seconds, even though it wasn't the 2:03 I was shooting for.
I'm a little dissapointed in my swim, 21:42. I wanted that to be under 21. It just gets me when they put 3 waves of 40-44 year olds ahead of 15-29 year olds. So after maneuvering through some traffic, and not pushing it all out, I can't complain with that time. I d…

Well I am down in Florida ready to race St. Anthony's. I got out for a nice ride today with a pair of Zipp 808's, and it was amazing. It's almost unfair how fast these wheels are, but I am totally psyched to be riding them. The water is calm and flat and it looks like it will be a wetsuit swim, then a flat and fast bike and run should follow. Let's call my goal time a 2:03:00 ( I know, Pete, not as good as a 1:5x:xx) but that's already a 3 mintue PR. Top 3 in my age group would be pretty sweet,…

I have never been into the whole concept of a blog, but I feel that as a triathlete it is very important to track your progress and reflect on your training. So it looks like I am going to give this a shot. As of recently, my training has been going very well. So far this season, I have really stepped up my cycling and maintained swimming. Running has been a bit of a battle though. I was dealing with a lot of achilles pain before the Philadelphia marathon, but that has since moved up my leg into…

We would love to see you in a couple weeks. Lovely scenery, great local attractions, and oh yeah, a half. Hope to see you there!
Regards from,
Providence, RI
I'd rather see you do Clearwater in November than a late season marathon - it's a more relevant experience, and won't bang your body up quite like a marathon, either.
That said, if Providence is the best way to get a Clearwater slot (closest venue & the date makes sense), then that's the one to shoot for.
As for recovery, you're young enough that your body should bounce back nicely if you take it really easy this coming week. I mean like 7 days where you do about 1/2 of the volume that you usually do, focusing on sleep & recuperation. You should be able to ramp up the week after that for about 12-15 days or so before looking to rest up for Providence.
Hope that helps - sound like a plan?
Mike
ARE.
THE.
MAN.
ARE.
BAD.
ASS.
We have not seen you at the Duck Pond lately or on your bike. Don't eat too many bon-bons during the offseason. Talk to you soon
Miss you guys too. I assume that you will be racing again this year. You did well last year and should haul ass this year since this sport builds up year after year.
Hopefully to a Sunday run in the close future.
Rob
