Early season wrap up (and first blog post)

Opentri-ers,

With a week of travel coming up, this seems a good time to call a break between early and mid season examine what needs improvement and focus on the season goals.

The early season had only 2 races, the Carrboro Classic Duathlon and the White Lake Sprint Tri. The Carrboro Classic is a small local race but a very good one. Brief recap, Pete(?) from UNC tok off early but I was able to stay steady and catch him toward the end of the run. I took the lead early in the bike only to see eventual first place Brent and second Josh fly past. Another guy, who I don't know caught me late on the bike but I past him in T2 and with no one in sight did not push the second run. White Lake is a much larger race (900ish people). I struggled in the swim, pushed hard on the bike and then survived on the run posting a 5th in the 30-34 AG.

The Good:
I pushed pretty hard a White Lake re-finding the ability to hurt
My run is despite not much work where it has been for the last few years

The Bad:
All three disciplines are not where I want them to be
My swimming has regressed

The Future
I have solidified the plan to race the Patriots Half in Williamsburg Va, my first long course race since before my son was born.

Good stuff! Taking a small break after the pre-season is really smart, and will help you avoid late season burnout. Sounds like you're ramping back up to the long stuff after your son was born - build gradually, and keep focusing on what you can be doing differently going forward. Looks like running & swimming more are the priorities...hopefully the Ultra plan can help guide you along, at least with some ideas and variety.

Have fun with it-
-Mike
