Please consider a donation to CCFA

There are plenty of wonderful causes out there worth dedicating your training and racing towards, with groups like Team In Training being a model of how to tap into that. I know from monitoring progress from the hundreds and hundreds of you who use the free OpenTri/SUPER Coach training plans that these causes can serve as a great inspiration to keep you moving through your months of preparation as you keep driving toward the finish line.

One cause that has become near and dear to our hearts in our family is the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). My teenaged son, Spencer (his lax bros call him "Splinter"), was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis earlier this year, and while we've been coming to terms with how to manage it into remission and beyond (it's a chronic condition, which essentially means it's with him for the rest of his life), we've also directed our attention to what else we can do to help the cause at large.

Here are two ways you can help:

1) Spencer's mom, Alyson, will be racing for CCFA in December at the Rock & Roll Half Marathon -- a link to her fund raising page is here.

2) I've also added a "Donate" box and tab at the top of the main OpenTri page. 100% of the donations that get collected in that PayPal account will be forwarded to CCFA, as part of Alyson's Rock & Roll Half campaign.

Suggested donation is $20 -- and of course, any amount you can give would be great. Thank you-

Thanks for the note, Mike, and also for the donation -- great to hear that you're managing your condition so well, too.  I'll pass along your note to Spence -- thanks again!

Mike

I too have Crohn's and have used the training and healthy diet as my way to fight the disease.  I have gone through Remicade, Humira and am now on Cymzia.  It's working fine, so far.  I'll think of Spencer when I wear my CCFA braclet.  Tell him I wish him well.
