The craziest element that I've added to my training routine in years is Bikram Yoga, aka "hot yoga". Imagine a typical yoga routine - no incense or sitar music, sorry - but held in a room that hovers just under 110 degrees. See that picture in my profile from Kona? That's running the in high-80's. Just imagine, if you can this time of year, another twenty degrees hotter! Yowza!

Anyway, what's great about Bikram, in addition to the heat, is that they repeat the same 26 postures in the same order every class. While that may sound boring, it actually makes it easier to follow along and track your progress over time.

The first several sessions were super hard, and then it gradually got easier (only slightly easier - it's still really hard) as time went on. It's been 14-15 months now, and I feel the benefits most in the water and when I'm running. My hips are much more open and loose, and many overuse injuries have subsided, or have even stopped showing up entirely.

So if you want to join in the fun and live in North Jersey, check out the Bikram studio nearby -- there are two locations nearby, in Westwood (on Third Avenue) and in North Haledon (off Mountain, which intersects Sicomac right by 208).

If you take a chance and give it a shot, I guarantee you'll find it to be pretty cool. And very, very hot!
