Cool. It's my second time down for Germany. The first time around I had a breakdown on the bike (mechanical). As my wife can't travel down, then beer will definitely be on the cards!!! btw - am at the Intercontinental.
In your Ironman experience, what workouts do you feel are key? The bike! From what I've read, the bike training is most important. Not only because it is the longest of the disciplines, but it will also help your running.
What is your strongest event? You can't tell it from my Ironman runs, but I am a stronger runner than anything else. I have a 3:50 marathon-only PR and if I could only do one of the three events, I'd go back to running.
What have/are you doing to overcome your weaker events? If you have any? Oh yeah, I hate swimming. So for CDA I was determined to not suck. I did 1:12 which put me just ahead of mid-pack. I got out the water feeling great (psychologically), so I hammered the bike and bonked the run. Try to hold back mentally.
Do you do most of your training alone? Right now I am solo, but when the bike season starts I will train with Bicycles Inc. in Bedford. I also train occassionally at White Rock. I run with Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers. I've trained with just about every group in D/FW. I try to train solo until I need the mental support of a group. I was with Dallas Athletes for awhile but there training was God-awful early AM.
So Louisville is your first? But first you have Boston in April and the IM in August? You should easily be able to focus on Boston until April and then transition to IM during May, June, July, August. No problem.

White Rock is a good one to qualify at. Germany will be my third IM. Is Louisville your first? I did Wisonsin in '04 and Couer d'Alene in '06. I loved them both, but CDA was the prettiest with the best training weather here in Texas. I chose Germany because the bulk of the training for it is March - June and as you know, that is some nice weather here in D/FW. I am never doing a late summer/fall one again! Also, race day in Frankfurt coincides with "The Tour" (you know, as in Tour de France) and the week-long Festival de San Fermin (aka, 'Running of the Bulls' in Pamplona). All the same week! So, I am racing on a Sunday, getting on a train from Frankfurt to Paris and on to Chateauxroux to catch a stage of the TdF on Wednesday, then on to Pamplona to run with the bulls over the weekend, then flying home from Barcelona. I have never taken a trip like that in Europe, so I am 90% apprehensive about the logistics of international and multi-country travelling during 'holiday', and only 10% apprhensive about the race. And no, not my dog. I have a little baby girl pug!
Hi. I'm in search of a structured training plan. Right now, I'm focusing on running (for Boston Marathon) and trying to just build on the bike and in the pool. I'm going to check out the two sites on your previous post...How is all of your training going? F
Yeah, that's me. I started using this plan (http://www.trifuel.com/triathlon/ironman-workouts/). Granted, just one week so far, but it is better than me making up my own workouts. I just need more structure to my training. I know I am capable of 13:00 at IM Germany. And yeah, that tattoo is huge! I get a few comments at races. :)
I think you're the guy that hopped over from TriFuel, right? Cool! Join the Ultra training plan group, take a look at the workouts, and let me know what you think...can't beat the price! ;-)
