Just finished Splash & Dash #1. Unofficial times for the slow, fat, geezer...
1000 yd swim: 18:01 minutes (I was happy with this post. I am averaging better than 2:00min/100m, which is slow by most standards but a good improvement for me)
Transition: 4:39 (had to put on tights, cold gear, etc. etc)
5k run: 32:45
I mapped most of the run on the Garmin Forerunner, but it took a bit to get the satellite signals.

My DeSoto T1 Speedvest arrived today. I went to LFT with Mrs. Keeldragger and tried out the new T1 bibjohn/speedvest combo. This was my first time ever swimming with a wetsuit. First observations were: 1) I was swimming faster. 2) the wetsuit adds quite a bit of buoyance, 3) I don't kick as much and my knees bend much less than normal, 4) swimming in the pool was tolerable, but the wetsuit is VERY warm. I may purchase a speedtube for warmer water.
I was quite impressed with the differe

I took the last two days off. I had came down with a minor cold just before X-mas. My sinuses have been clogged. I'm taking it easy for another day or so to fully recover and then get back into the swing of things.
Also, my T1 bibjohns arrived. They fit well, but are a little long in the legs. I'm not surprised due to my long torso. Not sure whether the legs get trimmed 3" or if I need another size. Guess I find out tomorrow. I timed putting on and taking off the bibjohns. Time to

SMB brought all of the drama today. First, our bike is cut short (12.5 miles only) because SMB blew a spoke and his back wheel came out of true. It sucks that he had an equipment failure, but I couldn't help but laugh at the wobbly back wheel. After he wobbles back to the car, SMB and I go for a 4 mile run. Of course, I was holding things back at my slow 10min pace. SMB decides to tackle another biker on the trail. Fault probably lies with both parties... we should have been jogging single-fi

Thanks for your encouraging words. I am at approx. 240 lbs and contemplating my first more a mini - olympic combo Tri. My distances will be a 1/2 mile swim, 18 mile bike and 4.5 mile run. The swim is most concerning as it will be in open water and my only training so far has been in olympic size pool - 25 meters in length. I'm up to 30 lengths ( 750 meters) without touching walls but am using different swimming strokes to fight off fatigue and keeping my breathing somewhat consistent. Seems like I'm moving very slow when I'm not doing freestyle swimming. My goal is to get through the swimming and have enough left for rest of Tri. I have a unique opportunity in that they are having a "review" of course day about 2 weeks in advance of the real Tri. Basically, they'll feed you a light continental breakfast. Everyone swims the 1/2 mile and waits until last person is complete, then we move onto biking as a group, etc... They finish it off with a nice cookout lunch - all for $35. The actual Tri costs $65 if you do as indiviual. $110 total if you enter as 3 -person team with each member responsible for one of the legs in the Tri. My thinking is there will be little pressure on "training / review" day so I can get a taste of what a Tri is all about... then focus on specific training for actual Tri day and give it my all for "one" leg of the Tri probably the biking as I can be a liability in the water and on my feet ! The bike coasts pretty good downhill with 225 on it ( my goal weight by Tri day !) What do you think about my plan ?
