I was a late bloomer triathlete, starting at age 43, in year 2003. A friend suggested that "you ought to tri a tri"...so I did, with Wyckoff as my first target race. We ended up doing the Harriman tri just before that and went on later that season to do the harrowing (swim) at Hudson Valley. But I was hooked! I joined Team Excel and although in year one I said I would never do an Ironman...the next year (2004) I was signed up for a half IM in St. Croix...which was an awesome time with a great group of fun people..later that season, in July I went to "watch" IM Lake Placid and the next day I was signing up for my first IM in 2005. That was the experience of a lifetime - all 15 hours of it and the hundreds of hours training for it. I've been out of the triathlon racing loop for a couple of years, sticking to mostly running races but I hope to get back out there on the tri trail some time this year. Everyone I've met in this sport has been an inspiration to me.There are so many highly motivated, driven people involved in triathlons - some more obsessive and crazy than others but I am always amazed by the manifestation of the human spirit through physical pursuit. Triathlon is an amazing sport. I highly recommend it!
