Hi there, I'm hoping to get a little help back with this. I am doing IM St. George here in Utah May 1st. I've been stuck indoors all winter on my trainer and haven't been able to do any hill training on my bike. I am now on the competitive season week 2 and I guess my question is how many days a week should I incorporate climbing into my training? The hills in this IM are pretty wicked, in fact it's pretty much up hill for 3/4 of the course. I did about 60 miles of the course and didn't like how I felt after and I'm stressing a little about being prepared enough for the climbing! Here is the elevation info....HELP!

Hi,

I can only speak from my experience from the Israman a week ago, and leesons learned toward the next year. The course of teh Israman also starts with a nice uphill of ~800m (2400 ft) in the first section before going into a some rough rolling mountains section and than what seems to be a plain is also a gentle slope (and of course the uphill side of it is against the southern winds so common there).

My lesson - next time try to incorporate as much as possible uphills into my long training sessions at the weekend. Another important lesson - get used to use the aerobar when going up and down hill.

I did find it less tiring to stay down on my areobars when going up the not so steep hills, I'm hoping to do the course a couple more times to learn more lessons that I can use towards my IM. Thanks Tomer for your input.
