just curious if anyone's headed to long branch saturday for the informal race? also wondering if anyone's done it before? how "informal" is it? i hear they don't keep times, but do they even give out numbers? are there people directing you on the course? is it well marked?

just wondering if it's worth my time or if i'd be better off saving my $35 and doing a brick out my back door instead.. pls offer any thoughts.

I did the june and july races. There are numbers and they do mark you. They do keep times for a 5 donation to whatever the charity of the month is, but for these races the chips were not in so you had to "shout" out your number to timers as you entered and left the transitions. (the chips may be in by now) I thought it was marked well. IT definitely helps to take a look at the course map prior to the race. The bike course is NOT completely closed. The reason i like them is they are relatively inexpensive and if you want to make a day out of it the beach there is very nice as well as the area around it.

Hi Jeff! I did the last one this year and one last year too. Thinking about Saturday but prob won't get to it. I didn't pay to get timed, so it was only $27 that way last time. I just got my own splits on my watch. The course I found to be well marked, though possibly if you're out in front it's not that good. However when there's people to always follow, I never got lost or wondered where to go! The turnaround for the run was a little confusing, but no biggie. You went to the end of the boardwalk & back (I think it was confusing b/c last year we went to the end & back but weren't supposed to, so this year they changed it so you were supposed to but no one was sure). None the less it's beautiful by the beach as Sarah said, well attended, well organized and you can't beat it for the price as I said at the last tri meeting, esp if you're not looking to stand on a podium at the end!
