Since this event was for IMCDA 2008, you might consider switching to the more-current IMCDA forum on IAmTri for IMCDA here: http://iamtri.com/group/ironmancoeurdaleneimcda

Here is a website that records daily temperatures. Currently it is 52.7 degrees and climbing! By race day it should be 53!

I just looked online and found a blog: http://mark.michaelis.net/Blog/SnowInCoeurDAleneIDSwimmingAnyone.aspx, he stated it is 50 degrees! Should be fun! just go faster to stay warm I guessing.

Have been watching the weather for the CDA area and all I can Say is BRRRRRRRRRR!!. I like cool temps for race day but the water temp looks to be almost dangerous. Thanks To Art for keeping us updated on the water temps. Anyone one know what thw water temp is currently?

You may or may not have seen the lastest so here it is:
Special Information regarding the Swim at the 2008 Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene
June 6, 2008
As many of you are already aware there has been great deal of speculation regarding the swim at this year’s event focusing on cold water temperatures. Due to a record snowpack in the Bitteroot Mountains, which is the source for Lake Coeur d’Alene, we anticipate that the water on race day will be colder than normally encountered. In order to ensure the safety of our athletes, NA Sports is going to make the following changes to the standard Ironman swim rules for this event only:
1. At temperatures below 60°F wetsuits are MANDATORY.
2. Neoprene booties (aqua sox, swim sox etc) will be allowed below 60 F°. ABSOLUTELY NO FINS.
3. We encourage athletes to consider a neoprene hood worn under the issued swim cap for additional warmth. NA Sports will continue to closely monitor the water conditions and always reserves the right to make changes as we deem appropriate with athlete safety the primary factor in our decisions

See clip from recent article in CDA Press:

Right now the water in Lake Coeur d'Alene is a brisk 49 degrees and Ironman race director Andy Emberton says if the water doesn't warm up to the mid 50s by race morning they will have to make some changes.

Emberton says if the water doesn't warm up to at least 60 degrees by race day they may require all athletes wear a wetsuit. They may also allow neoprene hats and aqua socks, which under Ironman rules are typically not allowed.

Under no condition will they cancel the swim portion of the race but the 2.4 mile swim course may be shortened. Emberton says the water temperature won't affect the elite athletes as much as the athletes who will take a little longer to swim the 2.4 miles.

Emberton will be sending out an e-mail to all the participants notifying them of the water temperature and what they can do to prepare.

That being said, more to follow, hopefully we will see some rapid warming of the lake and it will be business as usual!
