Cozumel Ironman 2009

ok...so Ironman has announced a new Ironman in 2009 located in Cozumel, Mexico...which is in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo strangely enough.

Although I ride a Litespeed I am contemplating doing this race. However, I know that water can be an issue in Mexico. Has anyone been to Cozumel in particular? I know other frequently traveled places in Mexico have water purification systems making it safe to drink. I don't want to call a hotel in Cozumel because they will have a bias opinion wanting people to come and stay there. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

It would be in November 09 and I am either going to do IM AZ or IM Cozumel...I would love to go...but if I am going to get super sick then it would be dumb to go.

hey dan...when i was in malaysia i had the problem with water....i just bought tons of bottled water while i was there. also, on the course the used bottled water. before you go check any vaccinations or whatever for the area. also, get cipro just in case you accidently drink the local water. i even brushed my teeth and washed my face with bottled water. quick showers are OK though long as you dont drink it! i figure if they hold an IM in the place it cant be too bad and IM won't put you at risk. talk to you soon!

also, when is that race? maybe ill do that one too

The race is in the end of November. Of course 09 is the first year...check out ironman.com...they have all the details there.
